ECONOMIC RESEARCH GROUP

MEETING

JUNE 16, 2010

Today’s meeting at the Crystal Springs GC, was attended by twenty nine of our members. The meeting was called to order at noon. The members were reminded that we were to have the next two months off and would not reconvene until September 15th.

After lunch our speaker, Jim Henry was introduced.  Jim’s subject was on the first Economics Book published by Adam Smith in 1776, “THE WEALTH OF NATIONS”, and it’s relevance to today’s economy.  The source reference for Jim was the on line encyclopedia, Wikipedia and the work of Frederick W. Taylor found on Amazon’s Kindle. Although Smith’s study was for an agrarian based society and trade, but it was so advanced that it was actually the first attempt to delve into time and motion analysis.

Jim’s presentation was well conceived and delivered to the group. It has been a long time since any of us had read the book or indeed had it so finely presented.

Well done Jim.

Our next meeting is to be held on September 15th at the Crystal Springs GC. We suggest coming for our social time at 11:30. Early arrival may give you a better shot at finding parking closer to the club entrance.

Bob Way informs me that our menu selection will be Salmon or Fillet Mignon (it may be Top Sirloin). Call Bob (345-7014) if you haven’t made a reservation or a meal selection.

Our speaker in September will be SIR’s Rick Zanardi who was the Marketing Director of the CMS radio station and will talk about competing with the Big Guy’s.
