ECONOMIC RESEARCH GROUP
MEETING
MAY 21, 2008
Thirty-four of our members met at the San Mateo Dominic’s Restaurant for the May meeting. We were pleased that so many braved the obstacles put in place by the CALTRANS construction crews and arrived mostly on time. Regretfully your secretary was the last to enter and register with the treasurer. By time he arrived, Floyd Alfson was well into his presentation, but he records that it was well received by the members. There-being no other business to report, Mort Levinson, our Chairman for the day advised that the luncheon proceed.
After lunch Mort Levinson introduced our speaker Marc Hershman, past mayor of Millbrae and currently on the staff of Jerry Hill whose offices are in Redwood City.
Marc Hershman established his pedigree as a political consultant by informing us of the many campaigns and political figures he had been associated with. He had been in California politics even while going to law school, working in Sacramento, the East Bay, San Mateo and Washington DC. His initiation into the wider scene came with his work with Tom Lantos first run for Congress. His success has been monitored by his associates and has never lacked entry to new situations such as being asked to be Mayor of Millbrae where he served a vacated term as well as being re-elected. He liked Millbrae so much he has established his home there as well as his practice.
At the conclusion of his talk, Mr. Hershman answered a number of pointed questions. All members were graciously invited to visit with him at Jerry Hill's offices in Redwood City.
Thank you Mort for bringing Marc to be our speaker.
Our next meeting will be held on June 18 at Dominic’s Restaurant at the Coyote Point.
Our Speaker Chairman will be Dale Schmidt and he has chosen Jerry and Mary Coleman to speak.
The meal selection will be Petrale Sole or New York Steak. Call Bob Way if you have not already signed up for the meeting.
