ECONOMIC RESEARCH GROUP
MEETING
November 19.2008

In the absence of our esteemed Secretary and Assistant Secretary, our overworked and underpaid Chairman agreed with himself to write up these minutes of an outstanding program!

Chairman Tom Keefer called the meeting to order at noon with 24 members and 25 guests in attendance. Since this meeting was our annual Ladies event, he kept the business portion of the meeting at a minimum, by reminding the members that additional speakers are needed for the following 4 months: JUNE, JULY, AUGUST, and SEPTEMBER. He also informed the members that the speaker for our January meeting will be John Mahaffy, chaired by Speaker Chairman Les Krupp. As most of you know, John was the Director of Fiscal Services for the San Mateo Union High School District before retiring, and will be giving us an overview of the where's and why's of school financing, budgeting, and obviously his thoughts on the financial crisis facing all of us.

Speaker Chairman Ken Neumann asked Chairman Keefer to introduce the Speaker, Sally Foster. After developing her own Interior Design business some twenty years ago, she learned that her own home in Burlingame had been designed by the Architect, Julia Morgan. Her many architectural designs, predominately located in the Bay Area, range from simple Craftsman style cottages to her masterpiece, the magnificent Hearst Castle at San Simeon. Sally gave an excellent slide presentation that provided all of us with an overview of this little known but extremely talented woman. A question and answer period followed.

Thank you Speaker Chairman Ken for providing a wonderful Speaker for this annual event. We received a very positive feedback from the members and guests.

Our next meeting will be held at Dominic's at Coyote Point on January 21. The meal choice has not as yet been decided; Bob Way will contact Bill Schinagl who will notify us.
