Arthur James Preston Oct. 28, 1919 - Jan. 2, 2011 Beloved husband to Corinne Preston, devoted father to Sally Camozzi, cherished grandfather to Nick, Kimi, Nina and Gabie Camozzi, and caring brother to Eve Mandler; Arthur passed away at home after a brief illness at the age of 91. Arthur touched many lives with his kind and gentle spirit. He was born in San Francisco and attended Polytechnic High School. While in high school he got his first job working for Douglas Shaw where he began learning the candy making craft that would serve as his lifelong vocation. After serving in the Pacific with the Army during WWII, he returned to San Francisco, attended college and worked for Blum's Confections of San Francisco. But Blum's thought he asked too many questions about candy making, so they fired him and he returned to Douglas Shaw's until he opened his own candy business. With a $5000 GI loan, he opened Preston's Candies on Broadway, Burlingame in 1946. In 1964 he married Corinne, and they have been married for the past 46 years. They worked side-by-side at the candy store until retirement in 1997, when they sold the business to the current owner, Irene Preston (no relation). In retirement they enjoyed traveling throughout the world, but vacations at their timeshare in Maui was always Arthur's favorite. A resident of Millbrae for the past 45 years, his last home was at the Magnolia in Millbrae, where he made many new friends and thoroughly enjoyed the last 2 years of his life. Arthur has been a member of the Burlingame Lions Club for 64 years, the San Mateo Elks Club for 60 years, SIRS #1, the Burlingame Historical Society, the Millbrae Historical Society and Retail Confectioners International. Friends and family are invited to a memorial service on Thursday, January 6, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church at 1500 Easton Drive, Burlingame. Reception to follow service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Sutter Hospice or the First Presbyterian Church of Burlingame in memory of Arthur Preston.

Photo Alto C. Moorbrink Born in S.F on May 1, 1922, passed away peacefully at home on April 11, 2011. Al is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Esther; sons Ron and Marty, daughters Randy, Vicky, and Katy; 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; his sister in law Pauline Newton; 4 nephews and their families. As a US Naval Aviator, Al flew the Hellcat. He is a graduate of Poly Tech High, U.S.F., and Stanford. Al was a lifelong learner: a word wizard, a Scrabble master, a "Rube Goldberg" problem solver. His sense of humor and dry wit were infamous. In his professional life, as teacher and administrator for the SFUSD, Al made many friends. Hiking, and a love of nature, lead Al to build a family cabin on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe in 1957 where he spent treasured time with family in the warm, renewing sun and water. Many of his SFUSD colleagues built cabins as well. A lifelong contributor to the Boy Scouts of America, Al was also an Eagle Scout. Later, he was an avid member of SIRS. "Poppy" loved sports (golf, waterskiing, and HIS teams: the Giants, Niners, and the Cardinal). Musically, he played the piano daily; read music and played by ear. Trumpet, jazz, and Broadway musicals rounded out this love. Service will be held on April 19, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the CHAPEL OF THE HIGHLANDS in Millbrae, El Camino Real at 194 Millwood Drive. Remembrances may be made to the Boy Scouts of America.

Richard G. Snyder

July 29, 2011

Hello to all friends and acquaintances of Richard. Dad passed away at about
9:00
a.m. at Gordon Manor in Redwood City on Friday, July 29. In the last two or
three weeks Richard had a very quick decline in his health. Over the weekend
of
July 23 he was taken to Kaiser for extensive testing and was found to have a
massive white blood cell count. The doctors suspected that he might have
leukemia but could only confirm that with a bone marrow biopsy. The doctors
and
the family agreed not to take any extraordinary  measures to treat him as the
treatment would be worse than the disease, he was in very bad shape by this
time. He was not eating, drinking or communicating very well. Hospice care
was
set up immediately at Gordon Manor with only comfort care. Annette, my
younger
sister and I spent a lot of time with him during his last few days. He was
not
awake the last couple of days and passed quite peacefully. He was still
playing
music up until 2 months ago with his last gig being with the Elk's Lodge Band
up in Yountville.  He was 95 years old. Not a bad way to go. Those of you who
knew
him well know that he lived for playing music, 65 years of that being in the
San Francisco Bay Area, and that he lived exactly the way he wanted to. He
stayed
independent up until 2 months ago when the family moved him into Gordon
Manor.
Not too many people get to stay in their home for that long and at that age.
The family will have a private ceremony up at Skylawn in San Mateo County on
August
8th.  His ashes will be interred in the Veterans Columbarium next to his
wife,
our mother. He will also receive a military ceremony. I'm on the fence about
trying to prepare a memorial for him, I know that a lot of his friends,
musician buddies, and the old neighborhood would like to honor him. What you
could do
for me is to respond to this email if you are interested in coming to a
memorial if
I can get it  together in a timely manner. Then I would have an idea as to
what
size facility, food, etc. I would need. We could all get together and talk
about Richard. I know I don't have every bodies contact so pass this on if you
want.

Thanks all,  Janice, Suzanne, Gordon and Annette
